TOOTH CROWNS

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants in Wakefield

What are dental implants?

The design of a dental implant is based on the design of a natural tooth which is commonly described as having two main parts:

  1. The crown that sits above the gum
  2. The root that sits securely below the gum

The Implant Crown

The implant crown is carefully crafted to look and feel like a healthy, natural tooth that feels like part of you.

The Implant

The implant replaces the function of a natural root and if looked after properly should last a lifetime. It simulates the bone molecules to attach themselves to the titanium thread of the implant, providing a completely stable foundation for the new crown – a process known as osteointegration. It usually takes 8-12 weeks for the bone to securely bond to the entire implant surface.

Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implant
A single dental implant will support a single crown and is the ideal solution when compared to conventional alternatives. The treatment is simple and the procedures are very minor when carried out by well trained and experienced surgeons. It is possible to remove the failed tooth, place the implant and build a tooth directly onto the implant all within a single appointment.
Implant Supported Bridge (Several missing teeth)
A fixed implant bridge involves the placement of two or more dental implants. The implants provide stability and stimulate the surrounding bone to prevent significant bone loss. Crowns re the fabricated and connected to the implants with a center crown that sits over the gums. Bridges on implants are an exceptionally stable and long term solution for multiple missing teeth.
Implant-Retained Denture (Missing all your teeth)
You only need 4-6 implants to support a bridge of all the missing teeth, greatly reducing the bone loss that occurs with conventional dentures. Dental implants will provide you with a stable and long term solution that reduces the pain, discomfort, instability, and bone loss that denture patients experience. A very cost effective alternative is to have a denture that is secured in place with implants.

Dental Implant Treatment Process

01
01. Implant Consultation
Your tooth implant journey begins with a consultation to understand the extent of treatment required. During your consultation your dentist will evaluate the condition of your teeth and gums, as well as your jawbone. Dental x-rays will be taken to confirm there is enough bone mass to safely place the dental implant. A CBCT scan may also be necessary to obtain more information about the surrounding tissues. The placement of dental implants requires minor oral surgery, because of this we will need to know your medical history, your dentist will need to know of any past or current medical conditions, current medications, or supplements, and whether you have any allergies.
02
02. Installation of implant(s)
At your implant appointment you will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area. During the surgery the implant will be strategically placed on the strongest bone tissue to ensure you get the best results. The implant which is a tiny titanium post are designed to fuse with the jawbone for a permanent bond that will support natural bone regeneration, healing process can take from 3 - 6 months. Options for a temporary dental restoration while your healing can be discussed. When you have fully healed and the implant has integrated with the jawbone, the attachment of the abutment is placed. This will take about 3 - 6 weeks for the gums to heal around the abutment. The abutment is attached to the implant supporting the final restoration. Final stage is uncovering the abutment and attaching your permanent restoration. This could be a crown, denture of bridge, depending on the number of implants and the location of your missing teeth.
03
03. Follow up
It is essential following implant surgery to return to practice usually 2 weeks after the implant has been placed, by this time any swelling would have disappeared and any incisions made would have healed, and your dentist can assess how the implants are healing. Annual check-ups are also vital to the long-term success of the implants.

What a wonderful find!
I’m getting married in June and decided that as a gift to myself I’d like to have the perfect smile for my big day. Teeth whitening has always been on my ‘to-do’ list and so I decided to have a consultation first with Liam. From there it was decided in order to get the very best results before my teeth whitening treatment that an appointment with Cat, The Hygienist (she’s so much more than this to be fair) would be best. That appointment was today. Cat talked me through every step of the procedure, stopping when I needed a break and checking I was okay with how things were going. Oh my, I was over the moon with the results, I truly was. I’ve had many ‘scale and polishes’ in my time over the years, BUT not like this one. I also had the Airflow treatment, which together with the scale & polish gave me amazing results. I’ve not stopped smiling today. It’s actually made my teeth so much whiter – much more than I anticipated it would. I’m booked in soon for the next part of my treatment. Everyone from Louise who greeted me at Reception to leaving was a brilliant service! Thank you
